After a decade-long silence, CKDS Radio has returned, and it’s doing it properly.
The pilot episode of “Shooting the Shit with Steve & Jessy” is now live on both Spotify and YouTube (@ckdsradio8013), marking the official relaunch of one of the internet’s most gloriously chaotic online radio stations. New episodes drop every week.
What Is “Shooting the Shit with Steve & Jessy”?
At its core, the show is exactly what the title promises: two people, a microphone (or three), and absolutely no script.
Host Steve Driver (founder of CKDS Radio and the man behind the 8KFLIKZ film platform) is joined by Jessy Ernest Plant, life coach and creator of the Life Jugglers card game from BeeFun Academy. Together, they pick up right where the old CKDS spirit left off: loose, honest, unfiltered conversation that wanders wherever it wants to go.
The pilot episode covers a remarkable amount of ground. Steve talks about the original CKDS Radio days on Live365, the station’s legendary reputation for technical disasters (complete with a dedicated “CKDS Radio fuckups” jingle), and his move to the Czech Republic. Jessy slips into coach mode to pull back the curtain on Steve’s “mask”: the respectable business-card version of Steve versus the mad scientist underneath who restores films to 8K, compiles code on vintage PowerPC Macs, and rants passionately about the Big Bang not answering what came before it.
They also touch on burnout, AI, repair culture, Fairphone, Battlestar Galactica’s ending, mental health around Christmas, and (somehow) God in a car park. It stays grounded throughout because that’s the CKDS way: real people, real conversations, no pretending.
Where to Listen and Watch
The pilot is available right now across two platforms:
- 🎧 Spotify: Listen to Episode 1
- 📺 YouTube: Watch in 8K at @ckdsradio8013
The YouTube version captures the full visual experience of Steve’s studio in stunning 8K resolution, which says everything you need to know about the gap between the early “jerry-rigged video equipment repurposed as an audio desk” days and where the station stands now. The Spotify version is the audio-first experience for listeners on the go.
New episodes release every week, so now is the perfect time to subscribe and follow on both platforms.
Why This Matters: Project Phoenix
The return of CKDS Radio isn’t accidental. It’s the result of Project Phoenix: a deliberate, strategic effort to bring the station back in a form that can actually sustain itself in the modern digital landscape.
The station has history. Founded in a spare bedroom in Luton in 2004, CKDS once cracked the top 10 most-listened-to stations globally on Live365. It survived moves to Borehamwood, a kitchen broadcasting setup, human bones being discovered during studio construction, and a gale-force storm that nearly destroyed the shed before the roof was on. It outlasted the collapse of the Live365 model that funded it.
Now, the relaunch is metric-driven. The goal is clear: 1,000 listener hours on YouTube and 1,000 streams on Spotify (the threshold Spotify now requires for royalty eligibility), which will prove the viability needed to return to professional hosting via Live365. Every play, every share, every follow moves the needle.
